MucoLife Therapeutics to Present Preclinical Data on First-in-Class COPD Therapy at #ERSCongress 2026
Gothenburg, Sweden – [June 23, 2026] – MucoLife Therapeutics AB, a preclinical biopharmaceutical company developing first-in-class therapies for muco-obstructive lung diseases, today announced that co-founder Prof. Gunnar C. Hansson will present at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress 2026, to be held 5–9 September 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.
Invited Symposium Talk — Tuesday, 8 September 2026, 10:30
Prof. Hansson will deliver an invited talk titled "Too Much, Too Thick, Too Sticky: Recent advances in understanding and ability to treat mucus plugging in respiratory diseases." The presentation will review how recent mechanistic advances in understanding mucus hypersecretion, impaired mucociliary clearance, and altered mucus attachment are converging with imaging data that maps mucus plug burden to disease severity and progression across COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, and cystic fibrosis. Prof. Hansson will address how this combined insight is paving the way for a new class of targeted mucus modulator therapies.
Poster Session 14 — Sunday, 6 September 2026, 12:30–14:00
MucoLife will present a poster titled "A γ-carboxyglutamate polymer detaches airway mucus and restores functional airway patency in a murine model of muco-obstructive lung disease." The poster presents preclinical efficacy data for MLT-001, MucoLife's lead asset and a first-in-class inhaled mucus modulator. MLT-001 is an octapeptide that dissolves airway mucus plugs. Preclinical efficacy has been established across multiple disease-relevant models, such as COPD and cystic fibrosis. This breadth of preclinical activity across disease models is consistent with MLT-001's mechanism of action targeting the shared biochemical architecture of pathological airway mucus, independent of the upstream genetic or inflammatory driver.

About Mucus Plugging in Chronic Lung Disease
Airway mucus plugging is a pathological hallmark shared across COPD, cystic fibrosis, non-CF bronchiectasis, and asthma. It contributes to airflow obstruction, exacerbation risk, and disease progression, and is associated with increased mortality in COPD. Despite its clinical significance, no approved therapy directly targets the biochemical composition of airway mucus plugs. Current agents such as NAC have demonstrated limited efficacy at clinically tolerable doses.
About MLT-001
MLT-001 is a first-in-class inhaled mucus modulator with demonstrated preclinical efficacy of 90% in COPD models and functional mucus restoration in CF mouse and piglet models, local pulmonary action with minimal systemic absorption, and a therapeutic index exceeding 1,000×. MucoLife Therapeutics is advancing MLT-001 toward IND-enabling studies, with Phase 1 entry targeted for 2027.
About MucoLife Therapeutics AB
MucoLife Therapeutics AB is a preclinical biopharmaceutical company spun out of the Mucin Biology Group at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The company is developing MLT-001 for COPD, cystic fibrosis, non-CF bronchiectasis, and asthma. MucoLife is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.
